CCTVs at railway reservation counters under Allahabad division
ALLAHABAD: To maintain better security and preventing unlawful activities near railway stations, North Central Railway is planning to install CCTV (closed circuit televisions) cameras at the reservation counters, under the Allahabad division. In this connection, CCTVs will be installed at the stations of Mirzapur, Aligarh, Fatehpur, Etawah and other stations under the Allahabad division.
Cases of touts loitering around the railway reservation counters to trap gullible passengers for tickets have often come up in the past.
Often there is a long queue of passengers at the reservation counters particularly to book tatkal tickets. The touts, with help from reservation clerks, manage to get tickets for the passengers through backdoor.
Meanwhile, those not entertaining the touts, are forced to wait longer, usually returning empty handed.
Security has also been a matter of concern at the stations and troublemakers find these as soft spots of their target. To boost up the security and check the activities of the touts, North Central Railway has decided to install CCTV at the reservation counters at ‘A’ category stations coming under the jurisdiction of the Allahabad division.
The stations at which these CCTV cameras will be installed include stations of Aligarh, Tundla, Fatehpur, Mirzapur, Etawah and Phaphund. Railways have also allocated a fund of Rs 95 lakh for the work.
Talking to TOI, chief public relations officer of NCR said, “We have decided to set up CCTV at several stations of the Allahabad division. This will enhance the security of the station and the work is expected to complete within six months.”
