One held in Allahabad with fake currency of 7.06 lakh
ALLAHABAD: Special Task Force on Monday arrested Achche Lal Chaurasia alias Bachcha Lal Chaurasia of Madhavpura Majra (Pratapgarh) along with fake currency of Rs 7.06 lakh. The sleuths described Chaurasia as a key clog in the racket that allegedly pumped fake currency worth Rs 5 crore in Eastern UP districts in the last four years.
Two mobile sets, a motorcycle and Rs 50,000 cash in genuine currency too were recovered from him.
Deputy SP (STF) Pravin Singh Chauhan said, “He circulated fake currency brought from Katihar (Bihar) into several districts of UP”.
Acting upon a tip off, the local unit of the STF nabbed Chaurasia near Mauaima Road, when he was on way to deliver fake currency to his agents.
Chauhan said, “Racketeers from Gulabiganj in Bangladesh pumped fake currency into Jalalpur and Malda Town of West Bengal and Katihar in Bihar. Achche Lal and his aides Mithai Lal and Lal Ji of Pratapgarh brought fake currency consignment from Katiyar.”
Five years back, Achche Lal was arrested by Chattishgarh police on fraud charges. Later, he came in contact with Bihar-based Jai Mohan Jha who introduced him to fake currency smuggling. As profits soared, he started pumping fake currency into local and adjoining districts market through agents.
The STF said that Achche Lal had been acquiring fake currency from Ashok Barik of Katihar for the past four years. Ashok used to meet Achche Lal in an inn adjacent to Katihar railway station and delivered the consignments. Both later shared profits.
In August, Achche’s two aides Mithai Lal and Lal Ji tried to transport a consignment to Allahabad by Patna-Securandrabad Express. However, they discarded the bag in the train after witnessing heavy checking by the GRP.
Police claimed that Mithai Lal had agents in Delhi and used to send consignments to Delhi though Vimla Devi.
