Tea Seller Recalls Serving Bill Gates: ‘I Just Thought He Was a Foreigner
Dolly Chaiwala has expressed her wish to offer tea to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
A video featuring Dolly Chaiwala, a tea stall owner, gained widespread attention after he served tea to billionaire and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates. Remarkably, Dolly, based in Nagpur, admitted that he was unaware of Gates’ identity prior to the video going viral.
During an interview with news agency ANI, the tea seller disclosed that he initially perceived Gates as a regular foreigner.
“I had no clue whatsoever. I simply assumed he was someone from a foreign country, so I decided to serve him tea. I was completely unaware. The following day, when I returned to Nagpur, I stumbled upon the phrase ‘Maine kisko chai pilaya,'” stated Dolly.
Dolly recounted his encounter of serving tea to Gates, mentioning that he picked up his serving style by observing south Indian movies. Additionally, he expressed his wish to offer tea to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“He (Bill Gates) exclaimed, ‘Wow, Dolly ki Chai.’ We didn’t exchange words; he stood right beside me while I continued with my work. He appreciated my tea,” Dolly recounted.
“I observe South Indian movies, and through them, I’ve picked up various serving styles…Today, I sense that I’ve become ‘Nagpur’s Dolly Chaiwala.’ Moving forward, my aspiration is to offer tea to Prime Minister Narendra Modi…,” he further stated.
Bill Gates shared video of having tea at Dolly Chaiwala stall
On Thursday, Gates posted a video on Instagram, showing him delightfully enjoying tea at Dolly Chaiwala’s stall. The video begins with Bill Gates enthusiastically requesting, “One Chai Please.”
“In India, innovation is abundant, even in the most basic tasks like preparing a cup of tea!,” Gates captioned the video, which has garnered over 4 million likes so far.
The video was recorded in Hyderabad, where Dolly was invited to demonstrate his distinctive tea-making style without prior knowledge of Gates’ presence. Following the video’s viral spread, Dolly has been receiving significant attention and acclaim, propelling him into the spotlight.
