BHEL Gains on Commissioning Thermal Power Plant in West Bengal
Shares of Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) jumped as much as 2.5 per cent to hit intraday high of Rs 170.10 after the company post the market hours on Tuesday said that it has commissioned a 500 megawatt thermal power plant in West Bengal.
“BHEL has added one more coal-based power plant to the grid by successfully commissioning a 500 MW thermal generating unit in West Bengal,” the company said in a statement on Tuesday.
The unit was commissioned at the upcoming Sagardighi Thermal Power Extension Project of West Bengal Power Development Corporation (WBPDCL), located at Sagardighi in Murshidabad district.
“This is the first unit of Phase II (2×500 MW) of the power plant and the second unit is also in advance stage of completion,” it said.
BHEL has been a major partner to West Bengal in the power development programme of the state, nearly three-fourth of the coal-based generating capacity of West Bengal is equipped with Bhel supplied sets, the company said.
As of 10:56 a.m., BHEL shares traded 2 per cent higher at Rs 169.50, outperforming the Nifty which was up 0.72 per cent.
