UP CM for NIFTs in Noida, Bareilly, Lucknow
Lucknow :- Pointing out the large size of the state, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today wrote to Textile ministry, urging it to set up three National Institutes of Fashion Technology (NIFTs) to cater to the requirements of people here.
In the letter, Yadav today requested Union Minister of State for Textiles (independent charge) Santosh Gangwar to reconsider the ministry’s earlier decision and clear setting up of three NIFTs in Noida, Bareilly and Lucknow, an official spokesperson said.
For setting up of the three institutes, if required, the UP government would provide land free of cost, Yadav said.
Earlier, replying to a previous letter sent by Yadav in this regard on February 5 this year, the Textile Minister had said that only one NIFT campus can be opened in a state.
On which, Yadav today said that UP is a vast state and its only NIFT centre is in Rae Bareli which is insufficient for catering to the needs of the entire state.
He further said that even three NIFTs are not fully adequate for UP, however, they can bring a qualitative improvement in the textile industry of the state.
The institutes can encourage handloom, create job opportunities in the textile sector and also boost exports, the Chief Minister said.
