Matter is serious, I’ll see to it: Sumitra Mahajan on AAP MP Bhagwant Mann’s video of Parliament complex
NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Friday summoned AAP MP Bhagwant Mann and expressed her displeasure over his video post on social media that showed security barriers and even the inside of offices in Parliament.
“13 people have laid down their lives for security of Parliament once. I know matter is serious, I’ll see to it,” Sumitra Mahajan said in the Lok Sabha.
Proceedings in the both houses of Parliament were disrupted on Friday over the issue of AAP MP Bhagwant Mann’s videography of Parliament House.
In his 11 minute-odd video – shot by a camera phone – Mann on Thursday showed him travelling past security barriers at the approach to Parliament as well as the gate used by vehicles belonging to MPs.
Members from other opposition parties including RJD and SP trooped into the Well of the Lok Sabha holding placards seeking their “right” on reservation in jobs.
As soon as the House met for the day, NDA members raised the issue of Mann’s video of Parliament House complex, terming it as a security breach.
Kirit Somaiya (BJP) demanded his disqualification as an MP, while his party colleague RK Singh, a former home secretary, said the AAP member has put a question mark on the security of the sensitive complex. He demanded a breach of privilege motion be brought against Mann. Mann was present in the House.
Amid pandemonium, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned the House till noon.
SAD’s Naresh Gujaral raised the issue of Bhagwant Mann’s video in the Rajya Sabha, saying this is an “absolutely nonsensical act by the MP”.
“This is a matter concerning security of Parliament. The matter must be discussed and action needs to be taken,” said minister of state for parliamentary affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi in the Rajya Sabha.
