Another police officer ends life
Deputy Superintendent of Police of Mangaluru M.K. Ganapathy (56) committed suicide in a lodge in Kodagu on Thursday just hours after speaking to a local TV channel and accusing senior police officers and politicians of the State of harassing him.
Kodagu Superintendent of Police Rajendra Prasad, who confirmed the suicide, toldĀ that Ganapathy had hanged himself to death but the police were yet to ascertain other details.
However, Ganapathy had spoken to a local TV channel in Madikeri on Thursday afternoon and accused Minister K.J. George and senior officers in the department of mental harassment. Ganapathy had even cited threat to his life in the statement and bemoaned that despite having served with honesty, he was being hounded.
Ganapathy had a long tenure serving in various capacities in the Bengaluru city police but it was also marked by controversies with the official being accused of involvement in multiple encounters.
Due to multiple inquiries and suspensions, his promotion was held back causing heartburn to the officer, officers close to him said.
