LMC to demolish encroachment on Metro route
LUCKNOW: As many as 26 shops which have encroached a major portion of Kanpur Road and are a hindrance in Metro construction would soon be demolished by Lucknow Municipal Corporation. These shops are close to Chandar Nagar main gate near Alambagh crossing and next to the barricades of Metro construction.
These shops were allotted in 2002. LMC had tried to remove them but they had protested. After convincing a few politicians to rehabilitate them on the same land, these people had stayed put on the spot. Since then the land has remained encroached.
After the matter was recently taken up by the assurance committee of Vidhan Sabha, LMC issued a show-cause notice to the shopkeepers for not getting their maps sanctioned by LDA and subletting them to other people without informing LMC. Most of them have even flouted construction norms by joining two-three shops into one.
LMC sources said, “When we enquired LDA about these shops, it said it didn’t approve their maps. Hence, it has now become LMC’s responsibility to get the land vacated. Even at that time, the shops had been encroaching the main road as per the Master Plan.” According to the Master Plan at that time, Kanpur Road should have been 45 metres wide but these shops were encroaching it then too. Now they are a major obstruction to Metro construction.
The corporation sent show-cause notices to all shopkeepers two days ago to remove all encroachments within a week. Officials said if they don’t get any reaction from shop owners, they will demolish the construction.
