Bihar topper scam: Former BSEB chief, wife arrested
NEW DELHI: The Special Investigation Team on Monday arrested the former Bihar Board chairman and his wife Usha Singh in connection with the topper scam.
Patna senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaj, confirmed their arrests. “Lalkeshwar Prasad Singh and wife Usha Sinha were arrested by SIT from Varanasi, will be brought to Patna for questioning,” Patna SSP said.
Earlier, the SIT chief had claimed that Usha Singh was also involved in this racket. Following which a manhunt was launched to nab her. Lalkeshwar had been evading arrest since resigning from the post on June 8.
A Patna court had issued warrants of arrest against the couple on June 15 after the police declared Prasad an absconder. Both Lalkeshwar and Usha are non-FIR accused in the toppers’ scam. Usha is a former JD-U legislator who did not get a ticket this time around.
The scam broke out after a video went viral showing BSEB Arts stream topper Ruby Roy pronouncing political science as ‘prodigal science’. When asked further, she said the subject was related to cookery. Another topper (Science) Saurabh Shreshtha could not answer basic questions related to his subject. Both were students of Vishun Roy College in Vaishali.
