Posing with lions: Ravindra Jadeja’s Gir photo shoot under lens
AHMEDABAD: The forest department has ordered an inquiry into the incident in which Indian cricketer Ravindra Jadeja got down from his jeep in Sasan Gir and posed for a photograph. Jadeja was accompanied by his wife Reeva and his friends.
Chief conservator of forests AP Singh said Jadeja had visited Sasan Gir on June 14 and June 15.
“We have got photographs that show that he got down from his jeep and took photographs,” he said.
“The Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife) J A Khan and PCCF Dinesh Mishra have taken note of this incident and have been asked to inquire into it. I have asked the Deputy Conservator of Forest (Headquarters) Ram Ratan Nala to conducted a probe and send a report,” Singh said.
Incidentally, Jadeja himself has posted four pictures of his sojourn on his social media page. Officials said that on June 14 and 15, he visited Sasan along with his friend and wife. During the safari Jadeja got down from his jeep and posed with his wife. In one of the photographs, he is standing with the forest officials.
“The dos and don’ts clearly mention that getting down from the Jeep or even smoking inside the forest is an offense and in this case, Jadeja has taken photographs in the vicinity of the lions,” an official said.
It is worth recalling that Jadeja had courted controversy when an FIR was filed against his maternal relative, Kripalsinh Jadeja, regarding firing from a revolver during Jadeja’s wedding in Rajkot on April 17.According to senior officials, since he was a VIP guest, there is unlikely that the any action will be taken against Jadeja. However, forest officials may take action against two Range Forest Officers who are also seen in the photograph standing with Jadeja and his family in the Gir Forest.
Ravindra could not be contacted, but his sister Naina admitted that he had visited Gir with his friends. She, however, pleaded ignorance about the incident. “I am not aware whether he got down or not but if he did, he wouldn’t have known the rules,” Naina said.
