‘Prodigal scientist’, 13 other Bihar toppers to give exam again
Patna: The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has ordered a probe and decided to re-evaluate this year’s class XII toppers to ascertain whether they actually deserved the honours after a topper looked completely clueless about her subjects, and said political science was about cookery, as reported.
The board has called all 14 toppers from arts, science and commerce streams for ‘a small re-examination’ on June 3. The move comes after arts topper Ruby Ray’s video in which she also called political science ‘prodigal science’ went viral.
She has scored 91 out of 100 in political science. She overall scored 444 out of 500 but was clueless even about the maximum marks. “It is 600,” she said after a family member prodded her while talking to a TV channel on Monday.
Science topper Saurav Shreshtha also could not answer basic questions. He called aluminium an active metal, and had no idea about sodium and electrons. BSEB chairman Lalkeshwar Prasad Singh said they will conduct a one-on-one interview along with a small written test and the ‘toppers’ would face action if they fail. State education minister Ashok Choudhary said the evaluators and invigilators would also if punished if found guilty.
Board sources said both Ruby and Saurav were from Vishun Ray College in Vaishali. Even the third topper (science), Rahul Kumar, was from the same college.
