The message of Bulleh Shah
“O Bullayah”, a concert that explores creative expression through the life and messages of Baba Bulleh Shah, will be organised here on Monday. The concert has been conceived and conceptualised by dancer Manjari Chaturvedi.
The show is a result of many years of research on the dance of the mystics. During the concert, Manjari will use the language of sufi kathak to reach out to the people with thoughts penned down by the sufi master. The performance will explore his popular poem “Tere Ishq Nachaya,” which is about the dance of surrender in love and the performance seeks to explore the expression of love, surrender, ecstasy, separation, a wide range of emotions expressed in words, music and dance.
Speaking about the production, Manjari said: “Baba Bulleh Shah is one poet who wrote in complete surrender of love. At times singing, at times dancing and at times dressed as a woman, he also became the voice of woman in Punjab.”
She added that the production is especially relevant in the recent times, when humanity is divided in so many ways. The concert will also feature an audio-visual presentation on the life, times and social relevance of the poetry of Baba Bulleh Shah. The poetry will be sung by traditional qawwals from Punjab.
The concert will be held at The Kila, Seven Style Mile, Opposite Qutub Minar, Mehrauli, from 7.30 p.m. onward. The entry is by invitation only.
