Darjeeling men beaten up in Gurgaon
Two young men from Darjeeling in West Bengal were brutally beaten up by locals in Chhakkarpur village here on Sunday.
Thirty-year-old John Rana and his friend John Thapa (28) were walking up to the latter’s room in a nearby building around 6 p.m. on Sunday when a shopkeeper allegedly threw dirty water on them.
“When we objected to it, the shopkeeper started abusing us. At this we told him to mind his language. He then called neighbouring shopkeepers and his friends from the village. Soon a mob of over a dozen people armed with rods and sticks attacked us. We were outnumbered and brutally beaten up. The attackers even threatened to kill us,” said Rana.
The duo then ran for their life and took shelter at their friend’s place in Sikanderpur village. “Both of us along with our wives spent the night at the friend’s place. We were too scared to return to our room,” said Rana.
Rana works as a driver at a private company, while John Thapa is a cook at a hotel in Gurgaon. The two have been staying on rent in Chhakarpur village for the past five years. John Rana said that it was for the first time that he faced such a thing.
No formal police complaint has been lodged in the matter so far. “I informed my friends about the attack. Since I am injured, they said that they would lodge a complaint to the police,” said Rana.
