Carmakers ride high with record sales
NEW DELHI: The huge discounts and freebies washed away the traditional year-end blues for carmakers as buyers rushed in to make most of the hot deals helping the industry end the year 2005 with a bang.
Most car and bike makers posted huge gains in sales in December, some even clocking all-time high monthly sales in December.
Toyota Kirloskar Motors, for instance, posted its highest-ever retail sales with Innova in December 2005, booking total orders in excess of 4,500 units.
Enthused by this response, Toyota is now planning to extend its triple discount scheme — which offered buyers savings of about Rs 80,000.
