Megan’s Law sex offender charged with similar sexual assault
Nathaniel Krieg, 34, was arrested Wednesday and charged with aggravated sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, terroristic threats, manufacture of child pornography and possession of child pornography.
He was convicted of the sexual assault of a young girl in Cape May County in 1999, for which he was sentenced to three years in prison.
The Lawrence Township assaults also began in that county, according to police.
Prohibited from having contact with juvenile females as part his parole, Krieg petitioned to have that condition lifted so he could live with a woman who had a teenage daughter, authorities said.
He allegedly assaulted the latest victim, starting when she was 15, for the last four years.
“A search warrant was executed at his residence and photos and videos depicting him engaging in sexual activity with a minor were recovered,” said Detective William Henry, of the Port Norris barracks. “This is the worst I have seen in my 12 years as a detective with New Jersey State Police.”
Henry said Krieg was arrested at his residence and incarcerated in Cumberland County Jail under $350,000 cash bail, set by Superior Court Judge John Geiger.
“He is part of the Megan’s Law mandatory requirement of community supervision for life,” Henry said. “However, he petitioned to have the stipulation removed that he was not allowed to commingle with young females, and the state parole board allowed that stipulation to be removed for him. Within two years of his release, he re-offended and there was a second victim.”
He said that Megan’s Law was well-intentioned, but is not uniformly supervised.
“This victim, by bringing her allegation forward, did a tremendous thing for other kids who could be possible victims,” Henry said. “We urge other victims to come forth. There is a victim/witness unit in the prosecutor’s office prepared to help. We’re also here to help victims.”
This series of offenses surfaced because it was reported recently by Millville Senior High School officials.
