Venu’s daughter joins TVS
NEW DELHI: Call it succession planning or just another example of women managers getting ready to break the glass ceiling.
The conservative TVS group is pumping some young blood into TVS Motor Company with Lakshmi Venu, the 23-year-old daughter of Venu Srinivasan, being inducted into the two-wheeler making company.
Lakshmi, an economics graduate and a doctorate degree-holder from the University of Warwick in United Kingdom, has joined as a management trainee in TVS Motor Company, the third largest bike maker in India.
Though company CMD Venu Srinivasan refused to term it succession planning, he said: “Lakshmi will have to work her way in the organisation.”
This makes Lakshmi the third woman manager in the hard-core male-dominated automobile industry.
The other two being Lakshmi’s mother Mallika Srinivasan (who manages the Chennai-based tractor maker TAFE) and Sulajja Firodia Motwani, the joint managing director of rival two-wheeler firm Kinetic Motor Company.
“More than being another example of a crumbling male bastion, it also shows that TVS Motor Company is getting the young blood to ride the company into the future,”said an automobile industry analyst.
