Sadhguru had brain surgery despite having severe headaches, as confirmed by the hospital.
Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev had severe headaches for four weeks. Even with the pain, he led a Maha Shivaratri event on March 8th.
Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, a famous spiritual leader, had emergency brain surgery at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals in New Delhi due to life-threatening bleeding in the skull. He is now recovering well, according to a senior doctor’s statement on Wednesday. Sadhguru had been experiencing severe headaches for the past four weeks but still continued his regular activities, including leading a Maha Shivaratri function on March 8th.
On Wednesday, Sadhguru shared a video from his hospital bed on Instagram. He joked that neurosurgeons at Apollo Hospital in Delhi found nothing in his skull after cutting through it, so they patched it up. He reassured everyone that his brain was undamaged.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Sadhguru and wished him a quick recovery.
Modi tweeted, “Spoke to @SadhguruJV Ji and wished him good health and a speedy recovery.”
Sadhguru said he was “overwhelmed” by the Prime Minister’s concern in response to Modi’s message.
Dear Prime Minister, I shouldn’t be a worry for you. You have a nation to run. Thankful for your concern, I’m recovering well. Thank you,” Sadhguru wrote.
What did hospital say about Sadhguru?
Sadhguru’s headache became extremely severe by March 15, prompting him to consult Dr. Vinit Suri, a senior neurologist at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals in Delhi, around 3:45 pm.
Dr. Vinit Suri quickly suspected a sub-dural hematoma and recommended an urgent MRI. Sadhguru had the MRI at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals at 4:30 pm on the same day, which showed significant bleeding in his brain.
The MRI showed evidence of bleeding in Sadhguru’s brain for 3-4 weeks, along with fresh bleeding of 24-48 hours. He was advised immediate hospitalization, but he had important meetings at 6 pm on March 15 and the India Today Conclave on March 16.
According to Dr. Suri, Sadhguru mentioned, “I have never missed a single meeting in my last 40 years.” Despite severe symptoms, he completed the meeting with the help of painkillers.
On March 17, Sadhguru’s consciousness decreased progressively, and he experienced weakness in his left leg, worsened headaches, and recurrent vomiting. He was admitted to Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals under the care of Dr. Vinit Suri.
On March 17, when Sadhguru finally agreed to be admitted, he told Dr. Suri, “Now is the time for you to perform the procedure.”
On March 17, Sadhguru’s neurological condition worsened quickly. An urgent CT scan showed significant brain swelling, with the brain shifting dangerously to one side, posing a life-threatening situation.
Sadhguru was treated by a team of doctors including Dr. Vinit Suri, Dr. Pranav Kumar, Dr. Sudheer Tyagi, and Dr. S. Chatterjee. He had emergency brain surgery shortly after being admitted to remove the bleeding in his skull. After the surgery, he was taken off the ventilator.
Sadhguru has been steadily improving, with better brain function, body condition, and vital signs.
