MHA Extends 50% GST Support for Central Police Canteen Purchases: Details Revealed
The initiative aims to provide advantages to both current and former members of CAPFs, Central Police Organizations, State Police Forces, and their families.
On Wednesday, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) declared its decision to maintain the provision of 50% financial aid on Goods and Services Tax (GST) for transactions carried out at the central police canteen, referred to as the “Kendriya Police Kalyan Bhandar”, starting from April 1. This step is aimed at enhancing welfare measures.
As per a statement issued by the ministry, the initiative is aimed at providing advantages to both current and retired personnel of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), Central Police Organizations, and State Police Forces, along with their families.
According to the ministry statement, “The Ministry of Home Affairs acknowledges and values the dedication of force personnel in upholding the nation’s internal security and places the highest priority on the welfare of CAPFs and their families.”
Central Armed Police Forces personnel often operate in remote and demanding locations, carrying out their responsibilities despite encountering life-threatening risks and enduring personal challenges.
What is Kendriya Police Kalyan Bhandar system?
Introduced by the Ministry of Home Affairs in 2006, the Kendriya Police Kalyan Bhandar (KPKB) initiative functions as a welfare measure benefiting personnel from CAPFs, CPOs, State Police Forces, and their families across the country.
According to information provided on the official website of KPKB, the initiative has expanded over time, with 119 Master Bhandars functioning as warehouses and over 1800 Subsidiary Bhandars serving as retail outlets. These outlets provide subsidized consumer goods to over 35 lakh beneficiaries.
The Central Purchase Committee (CPC) of KPKB collaborates with companies to secure discounts and promotional deals, aiming to reduce costs for beneficiaries who work in demanding conditions while serving the nation.
-This initiative mainly benefits serving and retired personnel of CAPFs (BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, SSB, and Assam Rifles). Subsequently, KPKB services have extended to various departments under MHA and central security agencies such as RPF, I.B, SPG, NCRB, NIA, and all State Police Organisations.
-Additionally, the CPC has facilitated agreements with two-wheeler and four-wheeler firms, offering vehicles at reduced rates to personnel.
