AAP Minister Says: Water Levels In Yamuna At Lowest Point In 56 Years.
Delhi Jal Board (DJB) Vice-Chairman Raghav Chadha, who checked on the circumstance at the Wazirabad lake, said Haryana has not been delivering something like 120 MGD (million gallons each day) water that has a place with Delhi and this has prompted a water emergency in the national capital.
Delhi Jal Board (DJB) Vice-Chairman Raghav Chadha on Monday said the water levels of the Yamuna river waterway at the Wazirabad barrage have hit the absolute lowest bottom in 56 years as Haryana has retained Delhi’s authentic portion of water.
Mr Chadha, who evaluated the circumstance at the Wazirabad lake, said Haryana has not been delivering no less than 120 MGD (million gallons each day) water that has a place with Delhi and this has prompted a water emergency in the national capital.
“The water treatment plants in Delhi are working at a decreased limit in view of a less release of crude water from Haryana.
“With Haryana retaining a lot of water, the Yamuna has dried up…so much that it tends to be utilized as a cricket or a hockey field. The water levels at the Wazirabad barrage have not been so low since 1965,” Mr Chadha said.
“Delhi is a landlocked city and depends on its adjoining states for water supply. Uttar Pradesh supplies to us a portion of the Ganga water, Haryana of the Yamuna water, we get some from Punjab through (the) Bhakra Nangal (dam). The greatest portion of this should be provided by Haryana,” he added.
Regardless of whether the water level in the Yamuna goes somewhere around a foot, it causes ruin in the capital, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) pioneer said, adding that it has gone somewhere near 7.5 feet as Haryana has retained a lot of water and the BJP-drove Haryana government should get back to Delhi its legitimate portion of 120 MGD water.
“With collapsed hands, I beg the Haryana government, kindly give the residents of Delhi their legitimate portion of water. The Supreme Court had requested you to supply this water on legitimate grounds. You need to supply it on helpful grounds also,” he added.
Mr Chadha said there has been adequate precipitation in Haryana and the water levels in the state’s streams are higher than what they need.
The DJB moved the Supreme Court on Sunday looking for headings to Haryana to deliver the capital’s real portion of water.
The DJB has been providing 945 MGD of water to the city occupants this late spring against the interest of 1,150 MGD.
As of now, Delhi is getting 479 MGD water as against 609 MGD from Haryana. In addition, the city draws 90 MGD groundwater and gets 250 MGD water from the Upper Ganga Canal.
With Haryana retaining 120 MGD water, the Yamuna has totally evaporated and the functional limit at different treatment plants has diminished by 40 to 50 percent, Mr Chadha said.
He said the Chandrawal Water Treatment Plant (WTP) has been working at a 55-MGD limit against the ordinary of 90 MGD.
Likewise, the Wazirabad WTP and the Okhla WTP have been working at a 80-MGD and a 12-MGD limit against their ordinary limit of 135 MGD and 20 MGD individually.
Water supply has been hit in central Delhi, south Delhi, west Delhi and the NDMC region where significant organizations, including the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the Supreme Court, the head administrator’s Residence and government offices, are found, Mr Chadha brought up.
