Reliance Jio to become Chargeable from 1 April, but Rates to Remain Reasonable
Mobile telecom operators are gearing up for a new round of price wars. Mukesh Ambani has stated that, the company will start charging its customers from April 1, 2017 but the rates will not burn a hole in the pocket.
Reliance Jio has been offering all services free of cost for a period of 6 months and on Tuesday, chairman of Reliance Industries Limited stated that the company would levy fees on calls. For existing users as well as those who would be joining the Jio family on March would continue to get 1GB of data along with all the Reliance Jio apps for free at a cost of Rs 303 per month and a 1-time cost of Rs 99. In comparison, Bharti Airtel offers unlimited calls along with 1GB of 4G data for 28 days at a cost of Rs 345.
Also, Bharti Airtel offers 30GB at a cost of Rs 1,495 for 90 days. On the other hand, Vodafone offers unlimited calls along with 50MB of 3G data or 1GB of 4G data for 28 days.
Reliance Jio has stated that new subscribers joining post 31st March would get to choose between different subscription plans that range from Rs 149 to Rs 4,999.
Mukesh Ambani stated that, the company will match the highest selling tariffs of every other telecom operator and also provide 20% more data on each of these plans. According to the opinion of experts, Reliance Jio is eyeing to lock in users at Rs 303 per month as well as bigger data subscribers who spend at least Rs 700 a month.
Ambani revealed that over 100 crore GB of data per month has been consumed by Reliance Jio users which translates to 3.3 crore GB data a day – close to as much mobile data consumed by the US and near about 50% more data than all of China.
