The Largest Solar Plant of the World Set Up by Adani Group in Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu
Ahead of schedule, Adani Group finished setting up a giant solar plant in Ramanathapuram in Tamil Nadu. Eight thousand five hundred men worked in 2 shifts every day for 6 months and 3 shifts for 2 months to finish the work.
According to Adani Group, It is a 10 sq.km project and happens to be the world’s largest solar station in a single location.
The solar plant has the capacity to power 150,000 homes and gives a clear indication of how serious India is about renewable energy targets. The 648 megawatt project has been completed in an extremely a short span of time considering the delays that usually bog down infrastructure projects which is an indication of the commitment to renewable energy by India.
Aruna Kumarankandath from Centre for Science and Environment in Delhi stated that the government has a clear idea of solar plans and the key to these plans are large installations. She also stated that, in order to meet the renewables target, PM Narendra Modi has prioritised solar energy.
India is a signatory to the Paris Agreement on climate change and is committed towards ensuring at least forty percent of the nation’s electricity will be generated from non-fossil fuel sources by the year 2030.
Officials forecast predict that, India will be able to meet its renewable energy commitments 3 years early as well as exceed them by nearly half. With special focus on solar energy, it is expected that it will contribute 100 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity target of 175 GW by the year 2022.
