Kiranmoy S Nanda claims he continues to be national VP of SP
KOLKATA: Kiranmoy Nanda, who was expelled from Samajwadi Party on Sunday, has claimed that he was never ousted from the party, alleging that his expulsion letter carried a “fake” signature of Mulayam Singh Yadav.
Nanda, a founder member of Samajwadi Party, on Tuesday said he has not received any formal communication from the party’s brass. “A reporter showed me a letter which said I had been expelled and it carried a forged signature of Netaji,” he told ET. “I have many letters signed by Netaji and I can say that the signature in the expulsion notice is fake. This signature is completely different from the signatures on other documents,” Nanda said.
The veteran leader, who backs Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav in the first family feud within SP, claimed that he continues to be the national vice president of the party. He also pointed out party members had on Sunday elected Akhilesh Yadav as their national president.
Nanda started his socialist party in Bengal in 1982 and merged his party with Mulayam Yadav’s party in 1992 to form Samajwadi Party. “I spoke to Netaji (as Mulayam is known among his party members) on Monday and I sought an appointment. Netaji did not tell me anything about expulsion. He only said that he would be going to Delhi and he would meet us once he is back to Lucknow,” he said.
Nanda also said a founder member can never be expelled from the party as per its constitution. He blamed a few “vested interests who have allied with BJP” for fomenting trouble within SP that has brought the party to the verge of a breakup. “They are deliberately misguiding Netaji. He is our leader and he would remain so. I do not want to take names, though, people know them,” Nanda alleged. “They want Samajwadi Party to be defeated in the election and BJP to gain profit,” he alleged.
Nanda claimed it was important to elect Akhilesh as national president to save the party. “All the senior members of the party were present in the convention and it was a unanimous decision. Netaji will remain the head of the party and there is no doubt about it,” he said.
