Donald Trump Issues Stern Message to Zohran Mamdani: “Do the Right Thing”
On Sunday, Mamdani also appeared on talk shows to refute Trump’s accusation that he was a “communist.”
If Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic socialist candidate for mayor of New York City, “doesn’t behave himself” after winning the November 4 elections, US President Donald Trump has threatened to stop federal funds for the city. However, the Republican leader claimed that because Mamdani is a “pure communist” candidate, his victory was “inconceivable.”
Assume that if he is elected, I will be president and he will have to act morally, but they will not receive any compensation. He must take the proper action. That I would have assumed that is astonishing. We will never have a socialist in this nation, I used to say. No, but a communist will be here. He is a communist, after all, and he will be the mayor of New York, Trump said during an interview with Fox News.
Trump, who was born and raised in New York and established his huge real estate empire there, called Mamdani’s win “very bad” for the city.
“Whoever’s mayor of New York is going to have to behave themselves, or the federal government is coming down very tough on them financially,” he stated.
According to data from the city comptroller, New York receives more than $100 billion from the federal government through various agencies and initiatives.
Mamdani’s Responses
Mamdani, 33, also appeared on chat shows on Sunday, promising to “absolutely” keep New York a sanctuary city so that “New Yorkers can get out of the shadows and into the full life of the city that they belong to.”
Meanwhile, the politician of Indian descent denied being a communist, as Trump had accused him. NBC’s “Meet the Press” asked him explicitly if he was a communist, and he said, “No, I am not.”
“And I have already had to start to get used to the fact that the president will talk about how I look, how I sound, where I’m from, who I am, ultimately because he wants to distract from what I’m fighting for,” Mamdani stated.
“I’m fighting for the very working people that he ran a campaign to empower, that he has since then betrayed.”
In the infamously costly city, the state assemblyman, who was born in Uganda, had fallen behind former governor Andrew Cuomo in the polls but soared on a platform of free nursery and buses, reduced rents and other populist promises. Trump and his allies were incensed by Mamdani’s unexpected victory last week, which sent shockwaves through the Democratic party and led them to accuse him of being a radical fanatic.
Cuomo may run unattached, and current Mayor Eric Adams, a Democrat, is running for reelection as an independent.
