Congress and BJP Unite in Criticism of NYC Mayoral Hopeful Zohran Mamdani Over ‘Pakistan’s PR’ Remark
In the Democratic mayoral primary for New York City, Zohran Mamdani has declared victory over Andrew Cuomo, the former state governor.
Abhishek Manu Singhvi, the head of the Congress, slammed Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic candidate of Indian descent running for mayor of New York City, on Thursday.
According to Singhvi, the Pakistani public relations staff “takes a day off” when Mamdani speaks.
The day is off for Pakistan’s public relations staff when Zohran Mamdani speaks. Singhvi wrote on the social media site X, “India doesn’t need enemies with ‘allies’ like him shouting fiction from New York.”
In India, Zohran Mamdani too came under fire from the opposition, as BJP MP Kangana Ranaut likewise disparaged the New York assemblyman.
The politician-turned-actor claims that Mamdani sounds more Pakistani than Indian. “His mother is Mira Nair, one of our best filmmakers, Padma Shri , a beloved and celebrated daughter born and raised in great Bharat based in New York, she married Mehmood Mamdani ( Gujarati origin) a celebrated author, and obviously son is named Zohran, he sounds more Pakistani than Indian,” Ranaut claimed.
Victory over Andrew Cuomo in NYC Democratic mayoral primary Zohran Mamdani has declared victory against Andrew Cuomo, a former state governor who is injured but still strong, in the NYC Democratic mayoral election.
In the general election, he must defeat Mayor Eric Adams, a Republican opponent, and possibly Cuomo once more. He must also dodge detractors who claim the 33-year-old democratic socialist is too far to the left.
Although the results are still pending, Mamdani had a significant lead that will be very challenging for Cuomo to overtake when the ranked-choice voting system in New York City starts on July 1.
The stunning upset of New York’s once all-powerful former governor and the signals it sent about the type of leader Democrats are drawn to after the party’s crushing defeat to Republican President Donald Trump last year made Mamdani’s likely victory a political lightning bolt.
