Iran Arrests 700 Over Alleged Israel Ties; Executes 3 Suspected Mossad Agents
The Islamic Republic carried out identical death sentences on Sunday and Monday, executing men it claims brought into the nation assassination-related equipment.
Following a ceasefire between the two nations that ended over two weeks of fighting, state-affiliated media said Wednesday that Iran had arrested over 700 people over the past 12 days on suspicion of having ties to Israel.
According to Fars News, which reported on the arrests, “the Zionist regime’s spy network has been extremely active in Iran since the start of Israel’s attack on the country.”
Furthermore, the Islamic Republic’s judiciary’s Mizan news agency reported that three individuals it accused of working with Israel were put to death Wednesday morning.
The three people who were murdered were identified by the agency as Idris Ali, Azad Shojai, and Rasoul Ahmad Rasoul. They were accused of smuggling tools used in the murder of an unidentified individual.
In reference to Israel, Mizan stated that the individuals were “arrested and tried for… cooperation favouring the Zionist regime.” “The punishment was executed this morning. They were then hung.
Iran’s judiciary posted pictures of the three men in blue prison uniforms and stated that the executions happened in Urmia, a city in the northwest close to the Turkish border.
Tehran frequently declares that spies suspected of working for foreign intelligence services, especially Israel, which it has repeatedly vowed to destroy, have been arrested and executed.
Human rights organisations like Amnesty International claim that Iran is the second-most frequent executioner in the world, after China.
Additionally, on Sunday and Monday, it executed men who were allegedly Mossad spies.
Tehran promised quick trials for those detained on suspicion of participation after Israel launched an attack on Iran on June 13 to stop what it saw as the existential threats posed by Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
Israel launched airstrikes against Iran’s senior military officials, nuclear scientists, uranium enrichment facilities, and ballistic missile program throughout the 12-day conflict, which seemed to come to a conclusion on Tuesday with a ceasefire mediated by the United States. Important Iranian nuclear sites in Natanz, Fordo, and Isfahan were also hit by the US.
Iran launched more than 550 ballistic missiles and almost 1,000 drones at Israel in retaliation for Israel’s attacks. According to health experts, Iran’s missile attacks in Israel killed 28 people and injured hundreds more. A hospital, a university and apartment buildings were severely damaged by missile strikes. Following the American strikes, Iran also opened fire on a US installation in Qatar.
