Trump Denies Role in Iran-Israel Ceasefire Talks, Calls for ‘Real End’ to Conflict
Following emergency consultations between its 27 foreign ministers on the Israeli-Iranian issue, the EU declared on Tuesday that negotiation was the best way to address Tehran’s nuclear program, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).
After a video conference, EU foreign policy leader Kaja Kallas stated: We were all in agreement that de-escalation was urgently needed. Diplomacy is the answer to preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, and the EU will contribute to this effort.
Since Israel launched its first attacks on Iran, Europe has been mainly left out of attempts to stop the carnage between the two Middle East enemies.
During his first term in office, Trump ripped up a 2015 agreement on Iran’s nuclear program that Europe had helped negotiate and manage.
Before Israel launched the most recent strikes, Trump’s administration was attempting to reach a fresh agreement with Tehran; now, negotiations have been put on pause.
Europe “has more to say” as the Iran-US discussions have reached a stalemate, Kallas stated, adding that she had discussed the situation with Iran’s foreign minister and important European counterparts on Monday.
According to Kallas, European nations were working together to remove residents who wished to leave the area.
“We coordinate the efforts to ensure the safety of our citizens, including member states with planes departing and those without,” she stated.
According to the EU’s top diplomat, US colleague Marco Rubio assured her that Washington was not interested in joining Israel’s strikes on Iran, stating that doing so would be in “nobody’s interest.”
