Ships Ablaze in Gulf of Oman Near Strait of Hormuz Amid Israel-Iran Tensions
Three ships were allegedly on fire in the Gulf of Oman, close to the Strait of Hormuz, according to images shared on social media.
Several social media users claimed, based on images, that three ships were burning in the Gulf of Oman, close to the Strait of Hormuz, as President Donald Trump returned from the G7 conference on Monday. These assertions have not yet been verified by authorities. At this time, Hindustan Times is unable to confirm the photographs’ validity.
In the Gulf of Oman, we discovered three red blots on NASA’s Fire Information for Resource Management System (FIRMS) Map. But we were unable to confirm whether the ships were burning.
In the United Arab Emirates, 22 nautical miles east of Khor Fakkan, close to the Strait of Hormuz, the British maritime security company Ambrey reported that it was aware of an incident.
One user shared pictures on social media, writing: “There are pictures going around that seem to show three ships burning off the coast of Iran in the Gulf of Oman, close to the Strait of Hormuz. Three fires in the Gulf of Oman appear to be confirmed by NASA’s Fire Information for Resource Management System (FIRMS) Map.
On the X platform, which was formerly known as Twitter, another person wrote, “According to NASA FIRMS, there are three heat signatures coming from vessels in the Gulf of Oman, entering the Strait of Hormuz.”
Why is the Gulf of Oman significant, and where is it located?
Through the Strait of Hormuz, the Gulf of Oman, which lies between Oman, Iran, Pakistan, and the United Arab Emirates, links the Arabian Sea to the Persian Gulf. Since 20% of the world’s oil passes through this chokepoint, it is crucial to the Israel-Iran conflict. Tensions could rise as a result of Iran’s threats to close the Strait, which could affect Israel and the world economy by upsetting oil markets.
As tensions between Tehran and Tel Aviv have increased, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth told Fox News that President Trump is still working towards a nuclear agreement with Iran.
Hegseth responded, “Of course,” when asked if Trump was still pursuing a nuclear agreement with Iran.
“In order to be powerful in the pursuit of a peace agreement, we are positioned defensively in the area. And that’s what we really hope happens here,” he continued.
Trump stated on social media Monday that “Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran,” referring to the nation’s alleged rejection of an agreement to stop the development of nuclear weapons.
