Air India Cancels 5 International Dreamliner Flights Today
Days prior, Air India’s AI-171—a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner travelling from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick—had a terrible crash just seconds after takeoff.
In the wake of the terrible tragedy in Ahmedabad last week, Air India cancelled five international flights on Tuesday, all of which used the 787-8 Dreamliner.
AI 159 (Ahmedabad-London), AI 153 (Delhi-Vienna), AI 143 (Delhi-Paris), AI 915 (Delhi-Dubai), and AI 170 (London-Amritsar) are the services that have been cancelled. In addition to this, a Dreamliner flying as AI 315 to Delhi experienced a mechanical problem that compelled the pilot to return to Hong Kong.
Two Dreamliners that were flying from Frankfurt and London to Hyderabad and Chennai on behalf of British Airways and Lufthansa were also compelled to return to their original airports.
Additionally, an Air India San Francisco-Mumbai flight experienced a technical issue during a planned stop in Kolkata earlier today, forcing the airline to disembark every passenger.
Following the disaster of Air India’s AI 171, a route from Ahmedabad to London, seconds after takeoff, the volume of cancellations and mid-air diversions has drawn attention.
frightening footage showed the plane struggle to climb before crashing into a college dorm less than two kilometres from the airport and exploding into a frightening ball of flames.
A British-Indian guy in seat 11A was the only survivor out of the 241 passengers who perished. One of India’s deadliest aviation tragedies, at least 33 people were killed on the ground.
In remembrance of the deceased, Air India deactivated the 171 callsign. Although AI 171’s voice and flight data recorders have been found and are being analyzed, experts predict it may take months before the disaster can be adequately explained.
The Ram Air Turbine, or RAT, had deployed, according to preliminary examination of the crash’s video. According to specialists who spoke to NDTV, this only occurs in cases of dual engines or system-wide hydraulic or electronic failure. What led to this disaster is still unknown, though.
Meanwhile, 33 Boeing 787s are flown by Air India, according to Reuters. Additionally, according to Reuters, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, India’s aviation regulator, has mandated thorough maintenance inspections for 787-8/9 models with GEnx engines. These inspections include evaluations of specific take-off parameters, electronic engine control tests, and engine fuel-related checks.
