Unreleased Sidhu Moose Wala Songs Released on Birth Anniversary Amid BBC Documentary Controversy
The first two episodes of a BBC documentary that examines Sidhu’s ascent to popularity and the circumstances surrounding his murder were released at the same time as the music drop.
Three previously unheard songs, 008, Take Notes, and Neal, were formally released on his YouTube page and Spotify on the anniversary of the late Punjabi rapper Sidhu Moosewala’s birth. Kidd, Mrxci, Jay B Singh, and Sidhu himself produced the songs, which are included on the posthumous mixtape Moose Print.
The three songs combined received over 7.8 million views on YouTube in a matter of hours, demonstrating the artist’s enduring popularity almost two years after his passing. Social media was rocked by the publication, and admirers flocked to the comment sections to honour Moosewala’s legacy.
In May 2022, Moosewala, whose real name was Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, was shot and killed in Punjab’s Mansa district. The attack was claimed by Canadian criminal Goldy Brar and a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Many of Sidhu’s posthumous works have since been published, garnering both critical and financial interest.
The first two episodes of a BBC documentary that examines Sidhu’s ascent to popularity and the circumstances surrounding his murder were released at the same time as the music drop. Balkaur Singh, Sidhu’s father, has, however, filed a lawsuit against the documentary, claiming that the BBC utilised his son’s tale and image without permission. Additionally, Singh’s legal team voiced worries that the material would impede the current Sidhu murder probe.
After the incident, the BBC abruptly cancelled the documentary’s scheduled screening in Mumbai. Rather, the shows were covertly posted to YouTube. On June 12, a court hearing is planned to discuss the legal challenge.
