Public Health Concern Grows as Hyderabad Detects 10 COVID Cases Amid Flu Spike
Hyderabad says A spike in seasonal influenza with moderate symptoms and ten additional Covid-19 infections. Experts advise care as instances are still manageable despite the XFG Omicron sub-variant spreading throughout Telangana and other states.
Over the past week, Hyderabad and other Telangana districts have seen a steady increase in Covid-19 and seasonal influenza cases. Private hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes in Hyderabad are reporting an increase in Covid infections, despite the fact that symptoms are still minor. Ten Covid-positive cases have been confirmed by Telangana’s Department of Public Health (DPH) in the past seven weeks.
A top paediatric specialist from a private hospital chain stated, “In the past 48 hours, I have seen nine Covid-positive cases from three different families.” “Everyone is receiving care in the outpatient division. Infants make up two of those positive cases. However, she continued, “the symptoms are very mild, almost like a mild flu—in fact, often milder than a severe flu.”
The Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) has documented about 163 cases of a novel XFG variation, despite the fact that the total number of patients is continuously increasing. Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Gujarat are among the states where reports of the new strain have surfaced.
XFG is a sub-variant of Omicron that spreads because of its potent capacity to elude immunity. Even when cases are being documented, there are unmistakable signs that the symptoms are not severe. Dr. M. Kiran, a critical care and public health specialist at Gandhi Hospital, suggested that people not panic based on comments from other carers.
The outpatient departments of both government and commercial hospitals are reporting an increase in influenza and viral fevers in addition to Covid infections. A little increase has begun to occur in the outpatient departments of Fever Hospital, Osmania General Hospital, and Gandhi Hospital; this increase is anticipated to continue as a result of temperature fluctuations.
