IndiGo flight aborts Delhi landing after scary turbulence amid dust storm
The flight – 6E 6313 – from Raipur to Delhi landed safely at the Delhi airport after making many circuits in the air.
An IndiGo flight heading to Delhi from Raipur experienced scary turbulence due to dust storms, prompting the pilot to abort landing at the last minute on Sunday evening.
After circling in the air for some time, the flight, 6E 6313, from Raipur to Delhi, successfully touched down at the Delhi airport, the ANI news agency said, along with images.
After cancelling the landing, the pilot informed the passengers that the wind speed reached 80 km per hour and that he had halted the approach to the airport, regaining altitude until the weather improved.
The incident occurred days after an IndiGo flight headed for Srinagar experienced intense turbulence shortly after taking off from Delhi’s IGI airport. The aircraft was trapped in a severe hailstorm close to Pathankot, Punjab.
The IndiGo aeroplane asked to enter Pakistani airspace due to the extreme weather in order to avoid the storm and turbulence. But the request was turned down by Lahore Air Traffic Control and Northern Control of the Indian Air Force. The worsening ties between India and Pakistan have resulted in the closure of Pakistani airspace for Indian flights.
At one point during the flight, the plane entered a steep and rapid descent of 8,500 feet per minute. The aircraft subsequently landed safely in Srinagar safely, with damage to its nose radome.
Dust storm in Delhi
Parts of Delhi-NCR on Sunday evening witnessed a spell of light rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds.
In a number of places, the wind speed increased dramatically. At 4:30 pm, gusts of 65 kmph and 37 kmph were recorded in Palam and Jharoda Kalan in southwest Delhi, while a thunderstorm was observed over Safdarjung between 4:35 and 4:37 pm, with winds reaching 66 kmph.
Additionally, Pragati Maidan reported the highest gust of the day at 76 kmph at 4:45 pm.
The dust storm caused at least four planes to Delhi to be rerouted between 5:00 and 5:30 p.m. Among them were flights from Chandigarh and Amritsar, as well as two from Jaipur.
“Flight operations at Delhi Airport are impacted due to inclement weather conditions in Delhi,” the Delhi Airport wrote in a post on X. “All stakeholders are collaborating with our on-ground teams to guarantee a smooth and effective passenger experience.”
It further stated, “For the most recent flight updates, passengers are advised to contact their respective airlines.”
