Influencer Apoorva Mukhija Questioned by Mumbai Police Amid Ranveer Allahbadia Row
As part of its inquiry into podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia’s controversial question on the show ‘India’s Got Latent’, the police have recorded the statement of content creator Ashish Chanchlani.
Social media influencer Apoorva Mukhija appeared before the Mumbai police on Wednesday as part of an inquiry into podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia’s controversial question on standup comedian Samay Raina’s YouTube show ‘India’s Got Latent’.
Responding to police summons, Mukhija reached Khar police station, where her statement was recorded, following which she was allowed to leave. Mukhija, wearing a mask, refused to comment.
Popular as ‘the rebel kid’, Mukhija was among the four judges on Raina’s show along with Allahbadia and content creators Ashish Chanchlani and Jaspreet Singh. All five have been summoned by the police.
On Tuesday, Chanchlani visited the Khar police station with his lawyer and faced an inquiry for over 30 minutes, following which his statement was recorded.
A controversy broke out over an episode of ‘India’s Got Latent’ after Allahbadia asked a contestant: “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once to stop it forever?” Clips featuring this segment went viral, sparking outrage. The Mumbai police are carrying out an inquiry into the complaints received from various individuals and organisations over Allahbadia’s controversial ‘joke’.
An advocate from Raina’s legal team said he was travelling and would soon join the inquiry. Raina is also the organiser of the show.
The police will contact BookMyShow for details of those who bought tickets to the show and watched it. The police will also try to identify if anyone from the audience, especially any woman, felt discomfort or insulted or felt her modesty was outraged when the allegedly ‘obscene and vulgar’ jokes were cracked during the show, a police officer said.
