Rishabh Pant Returns as Delhi Capitals Captain for IPL 2024
In IPL 2024, Rishabh Pant is set to lead the Delhi Capitals as captain
On Tuesday, it was officially declared that Rishabh Pant would lead the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024. Pant had sat out the previous IPL season due to injuries sustained in a severe car accident in December 2022. During his absence, David Warner from Australia took over the captaincy. However, with Pant’s return to cricket after nearly 15 months of recovery and dedication, it was an obvious choice for the franchise to reinstate him as their captain.
Rishabh Pant will captain Delhi Capitals in the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League. The wicketkeeper-batter is making a return to professional cricket after 14 months, and has been a part of the Delhi Capitals pre-season preparatory camp in Vizag,” DC said in a statement
Speaking about the event, DC Chairman and co-owner Parth Jindal said, “We’re thrilled to have Rishabh back as our Captain. His grit and fearlessness define his style of cricket, and it’s evident in his recovery journey as well. I’m excited to see him lead our team once again as we gear up for the new season with renewed energy and enthusiasm.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Chairman and co-owner Parth Jindal expressed his excitement, stating, “We’re delighted to have Rishabh back as our Captain. His resilience and bravery are not only evident in his style of cricket but also in his recovery journey. I look forward to seeing him lead our team again as we prepare for the upcoming season with renewed vigor and enthusiasm.
How Rishabh Pant made an early return
“The mental strength and confidence inside him made us give our 100 per cent in doing the rehab part for him,” Thulasi Yuvraj, a physiotherapist at the National Cricket Academy told ‘bcci.tv’.
“He was initially expected to take up to two years, according to doctors. However, once he arrived at the NCA, his recovery entered a progressive phase,” he added.
According to Nishanta Bordoloi, the strength and conditioning coach at NCA, Pant’s early involvement in gymnastics proved beneficial during his recovery.
“Rishabh’s background in gymnastics was a huge advantage for us because certain movements came naturally to him,” Bordoloi explained. “Whenever he felt restricted, he could easily tumble or roll back to his feet. This was a significant advantage for his recovery.”
Delhi Capitals will play their first IPL 2024 match against Punjab Kings in Chandigarh on March 23.
