In Uttar Pradesh, two children were brutally killed in Badaun. The person accused of the crime was later killed by the police in an encounter.
The Badaun murder occurred while two children, approximately 11 and 6 years old, were playing on the terrace of a building in Baba Colony.
According to a report by news agency ANI, in a distressing event on Tuesday evening, two children were brutally murdered in Uttar Pradesh’s Badaun’s Baba Colony by an individual, who was subsequently killed in a police encounter.
Two children, aged approximately 11 and 6 years old, were playing on a building’s terrace. A person named Sajid, waited for a while before attacking and killing them, as stated by Bareilly inspector-general of police Rakesh Kumar to ANI. The victims, identified by The Indian Express as brothers Ayush and Honey, tragically lost their lives in the incident.
Rakesh Kumar said, “Police arrived, and the accused tried to run away. We chased him. He shot at the police and got killed in return. He died there. The police are looking into the matter.”
Badaun SSP Alok Priyadarshi informed ANI that yesterday around 7:30 pm, the accused Sajid entered the house and went to the terrace where the children were playing. He attacked and murdered the two children. When he tried to escape, the crowd attempted to stop him, but he managed to get away. Police teams acted swiftly upon learning of his escape. When confronted, the accused fired at the police, leading to his death in return fire.
The SSP mentioned that the murder weapon and revolver were found. The family of the deceased children also named the accused’s brother, Javed, in the FIR. Efforts are underway to locate and arrest him, and he will be apprehended soon.
The person who committed the crime is Sajid. We don’t know yet why he killed the children.
IG Rakesh Kumar mentioned that the accused is between 25 and 30 years old. He added that further details about the accused will be revealed after more investigation.
When questioned about the reason behind the murders, Badaun district magistrate (DM) Manoj Kumar stated, “The motive for the murder is still unclear. It will be determined through the investigation.”
Reports suggested that a monetary dispute may have triggered the incident. The SSP mentioned, based on the victim’s family’s account, that the accused had asked for ₹5,000 from the deceased children’s father. He stated that the police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder.
There is tension in Badaun.
Heavy police security was set up at Baba Colony near the Mandi Samiti outpost as local residents protested against the horrific double murder.
According to NDTV, enraged locals set a shop on fire following the incident in Baba Colony. However, the police stated that the situation is now under control.
District Magistrate Manoj Kumar mentioned that some individuals became upset after the incident, and they have been advised to maintain peace.
“We were informed this evening about a distressing incident in Baba Colony near the Mandi Samiti police outpost, where a man entered a house and killed two young children. Subsequently, some individuals became agitated. They have been urged to maintain peace,” stated Manoj Kumar to ANI. He further mentioned that the bodies have been sent for postmortem examination. “We have assured them that a thorough investigation will be conducted,” added the DM.
