AAP’s Satyendar Jain Returns to Tihar Jail; Party Hails Him as a ‘Hero’
Jain, who had been out on interim bail since May 2023, returned to Tihar on Monday. He was apprehended by the ED in May 2022 on charges of money laundering.
Even as their party colleague surrendered on Monday evening and returned to Tihar Jail following the Supreme Court’s rejection of his plea for regular bail, several Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal, voiced their support for Satyendar Jain.
Former minister Jain, aged 59, was apprehended by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on May 30, 2022, over allegations of money laundering. On May 26, 2023, he was granted interim bail by the apex court on health grounds, and has remained out on bail since then, with multiple extensions granted to his interim bail.
Meanwhile, here is how AAP leaders reacted:
Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP national convenor, hailed Jain as a ‘hero for all residents of Delhi.’
“He (Jain) facilitated the provision of round-the-clock electricity, free electricity, quality government hospitals, and community clinics. My heart goes out to him and his family. May God bless them,” the Delhi Chief Minister shared on X (formerly Twitter).
Atishi, the Kalkaji legislator and a minister in the Kejriwal-led government, expressed her sentiment with the words ‘Heartbreaking,’ accompanied by emojis of a broken heart and a sad face.
Saurabh Bharadwaj, the Greater Kailash MLA and a minister in the Union territory (UT) government, criticized the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre.
“Observe the (degraded) standard of BJP’s politics. The individual who introduced the remarkable mohalla clinics in Delhi has been incarcerated. It’s truly disheartening,” Bharadwaj expressed on the social media platform.
