In the WPL 2024 Final, Royal Challengers Bangalore emerged victorious against Delhi Capitals, securing an eight-wicket win. The match took place in New Delhi on Sunday. Delhi Capitals were dismissed for 113 runs, after which RCB successfully chased down the target, reaching 115/2 in 19.2 overs. Richa Ghosh (17) sealed the victory with a match-winning four, accompanied by Ellyse Perry (35). RCB had a solid start to their run chase, led by Sophie Devine’s 32 runs. Devine was dismissed by Shikha Pandey after a promising start. Additionally, Smriti Mandhana contributed 31 runs before being dismissed by Minnu Mani.
At the outset, DC won the toss and elected to bat first. Delhi got off to a strong start with openers Meg Lanning and Shafali asserting dominance early on. However, Shafali’s innings ended at 44 off 27 balls when she was dismissed by Sophie Molineux. The RCB spinner spearheaded her team’s resurgence by claiming the wickets of Jemimah (0) and Alice Capsey (0) in quick succession during the same over.
Meanwhile, Lanning struggled to steady the ship following the early dismissals of her teammates. Her innings came to an end in the 11th over when she was dismissed by Shreyanka Patil, having scored 23 runs off 23 balls. RCB maintained the pressure, with Sobhana Asha claiming two wickets by dismissing Marizanne Kapp (8) and Jess Jonassen (3). Additionally, Patil struck again to dismiss Minnu Mani (5), while Radha Yadav was run out. In the 19th over, Patil secured two more wickets by dismissing Arundhati Reddy (10) and Taniya Bhatia (0).
