Election Commission Set to Unveil Lok Sabha Election Schedule Tomorrow
Date for Lok Sabha Election 2024 Announcement: Press Conference Scheduled for 3 pm Tomorrow
Date for Lok Sabha Election 2024: The Election Commission announced on Friday that it will unveil the schedule for the Lok Sabha elections and several state assemblies tomorrow.
The Lok Sabha election announcement will occur at a press conference held at 3 pm in New Delhi’s Vigyan Bhawan.
“The Election Commission will hold a press conference tomorrow, Saturday, 16th March, at 3 pm, to announce the schedule for the general elections of 2024 and several state assemblies. The event will be livestreamed on the ECI’s social media platforms,” stated the poll body on X.
The Model Code of Conduct will be enforced immediately upon the announcement. It comprises guidelines issued by the Election Commission pertaining to the conduct of political parties, candidates, governments, and the ruling party during elections, covering speeches, declarations, election manifestos, and overall behavior.
The current Lok Sabha’s tenure concludes on June 16, necessitating the formation of a new House prior to that date.
Previously, the Lok Sabha elections were declared on March 10 and conducted across seven phases starting from April 11. Vote counting took place on May 23.
The Election Commission’s announcement regarding the poll schedule coincides with the appointment of two new election commissioners.
The Election Commission of India encountered two vacancies for election commissioners following the unexpected resignation of Arun Goel last week and the retirement of Anup Chandra Pandey on February 14.
The announcement will also pave the way for the political contest between the NDA government led by PM Narendra Modi and the INDIA bloc led by the Congress.
Earlier this month, the Election Commission announced that the upcoming Lok Sabha elections will witness the participation of the largest electorate, with 96.88 crore people registered to vote.
It was added that two crore new electors in the age bracket of 18 to 29 years have been included in the voters’ roster.
The Election Commission stated that this achievement also encompasses the successful conclusion of the revision of electoral rolls in Jammu and Kashmir and Assam, following the delimitation of constituencies. This effort, carried out with careful planning, coordination, and involvement of political parties, has resulted in significant advancements in terms of inclusivity, accuracy, and integrity of the electoral rolls.
