Farmers’ meet in Delhi
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), the coalition of farmers’ unions leading the farmers’ protests in 2020-21, announced that it has obtained a no-objection certificate from the Delhi Police for organizing the mahapanchayat on Thursday. They also stated that arrangements for parking space, as well as basic amenities like drinking water, toilets, and ambulance services, will be facilitated with the assistance of the municipal administration of Delhi.
According to Delhi Police officials, they requested SKM to limit the number of attendees to 5,000, although they anticipate a turnout exceeding 15,000 individuals. “No tractors or trollies will be permitted at the event. The mahapanchayat is scheduled to commence at 11 am and conclude by 2 pm. Firearms are strictly prohibited, and there will be no rallies or demonstrations permitted. No individuals will be allowed to stay beyond the designated timeframe,” stated a senior police officer familiar with the situation, emphasizing the deployment of adequate personnel to ensure law and order around the venue.
Farmers from neighboring states will participate in the mahapanchayat, with many arriving by train. Buses and four-wheelers transporting farmers will display window stickers identifying them as vehicles associated with farmers, along with flags representing their respective organizations.
