American Drew Hicks, Fluent in Bhojpuri, Receives Award from PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that the National Creators Awards will hold significant importance in the future.
On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi awarded the ‘Best International Creator’ accolade to American content creator Andrew Hicks at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Appreciating the acknowledgment, Hicks expressed his desire to bring joy to people and make India proud through his work.
Who is Andrew Hicks?
Andrew Hicks, skilled in both Hindi and Bhojpuri, produces short videos for Instagram and YouTube that rapidly gain popularity. Recognized for his unique accent, Hicks has established himself as a prominent figure on social media. With nearly 900,000 followers on Instagram, his videos attract millions of views.
When questioned by PM Modi about his proficiency in Hindi and Bhojpuri, Hicks revealed that he had spent part of his childhood in Varanasi while his father pursued studies at Banaras Hindu University. Hicks mentioned that his father was also engaged in the trade of Mithila painting in Patna, leading him to spend some time in the capital city of Bihar.
“Bachpan ke baad main wapas US gaya. But US mein mann nahi laga. Mere ko laga mujhko jaldi ghar wapas aana hai, toh main aa gaya,(I went back to the US. But I felt home sick so I came back).”
National Creators Award
The National Creators Award has been designed as a platform to promote the utilization of creativity for fostering positive transformation. Among the recipients were Pankhti Pandey, honored in the ‘Green Champion’ category, Keerthika Govindasamy recognized as the best storyteller, singer Maithili Thakur awarded the ‘Cultural Ambassador of the Year’ accolade, Gaurav Chaudhary acknowledged as the Best Creator in the Tech Category, and Kamiya Jani celebrated as the Favourite Travel Creator.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi encouraged digital content creators to produce content that highlights the country’s culture and heritage.
Speaking at the ‘National Creators Award’ ceremony at Bharat Mandapam in the national capital on Friday, the Prime Minister also encouraged digital creators to captivate the global audience with their content.
“…Let’s unite to initiate a ‘Create on India’ movement. Let’s narrate the tale of India to the world. Produce content centered on India and craft it for the global audience. Generate content that not only garners likes for you but also for your country. To achieve this, you must connect with a global audience,” stated the Prime Minister.
