Mehbooba Mufti Accuses PM Modi’s Srinagar Rally of ‘Forcibly Mobilizing Attendees
Omar Abdullah, a leader of the National Conference, had also alleged that the J&K administration went to great lengths to ensure a large turnout for PM Modi’s rally in Srinagar.
As numerous individuals from various parts of Jammu and Kashmir gathered at Srinagar’s Bakshi Stadium for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally, Mehbooba Mufti, the chief of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), asserted on Thursday that government employees were being compelled to attend the event in order to portray a misleading sense of normalcy in the valley.
In a post on X, the ex-chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir alleged that government employees were forced to assemble at Budgam bus stand as early as five in the morning, enduring sub-zero temperatures, before being transported to PM Modi’s rally.
“It’s distressing to witness employees being compelled to depict a rosy picture that everything is fine after 2019, suggesting that people here are joyously embracing their own disempowerment and humiliation.”
She unfavorably contrasted this purported situation with the past visits of former Prime Ministers Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Dr. Manmohan Singh, which occurred during the height of the insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir. Mufti recalled how during those visits, ordinary citizens eagerly participated in the events and departed with renewed hope.
“However, this time the people of Kashmir are aware that everything discussed at Bakshi Stadium will be aimed at highlighting the supposed advantages of the unlawful abrogation of Article 370, which only adds insult to their injuries,” claimed Mufti.
“This visit is solely intended to address and rally support among BJP’s main constituency across the rest of India ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections,” she added.
Omar Abdullah, a leader of the National Conference, echoed similar sentiments, alleging that the Jammu and Kashmir administration spared no effort to ensure a large turnout for Prime Minister Modi’s rally in Srinagar. He asserted that the BJP would not have been able to achieve this on its own.
“They are compelling thousands of employees, both men and women, to gather between 4:30 am and 5:30 am in freezing temperatures to be transported to the venue by bus. This participation is not voluntary; it’s mandatory. Employees who fail to attend are facing threats of disciplinary action from their department heads,” he stated.
“In the coming days, the pro-government media and agencies will praise the ‘historic crowd’ assembled to listen to PM Modi in Srinagar. However, what they will conveniently overlook is that hardly any of the attendees were there by choice. The authoritarian Jammu and Kashmir government has gone to great lengths to ensure a crowd for the PM, as the BJP is incapable of achieving anything in J-K without the support of the administration,” Abdullah stated in a post on X.
