Bengaluru Blast: CCTV Footage Reveals Clues About Rameshwaram Cafe ‘Bomber’
In the Bengaluru blast case, the suspect was captured on CCTV entering the cafe at 11:34 am, exiting at 11:43 am, and then walking over a kilometer to reach a nearby bus stop.
On Wednesday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) offered a cash reward of ₹10 lakh for any information regarding the suspected bomber involved in the March 1 blast at Rameshwaram Cafe in Bengaluru. According to reports, CCTV footage of a suspect has unveiled certain details about their identity.
Earlier this week, the NIA took over the investigation of the blast that occurred at Rameshwaram Cafe in Brookfield, East Bengaluru on March 1. The explosion, suspected to be caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), resulted in at least 10 injuries. Following the incident, the Karnataka Police filed a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosives Substances Act.
On Wednesday, in addition to offering the reward, the NIA released the CCTV camera image of the suspect.
According to The Indian Express, the suspect was observed arriving at a bus stop approximately 100 meters from the cafe via a public bus around 10:45 am as per CCTV camera footage. He then entered the cafe at 11:34 am, exited at 11:43 am, and proceeded to walk over a kilometer to another bus stop to make his escape using public transportation.
The newspaper reported, based on information from unnamed sources, that the CCTV camera footage of the suspect has yielded significant leads, including identifying key facial features.
More about Bengaluru cafe blast suspect
According to sources cited by The Indian Express, the suspect utilized multiple public buses to transport the explosive device and flee the scene afterward. During his escape, he made various stops, including one at a Muslim religious center a few kilometers away from the site of the incident.
During the suspect’s escape, a baseball cap worn by them at the café was discovered at one of the stopover locations. It is suspected that the suspect changed their clothing at this stop and left behind the cap.
The explosion, caused by an improvised explosive device (IED), originated from a corner of the café, near a hand-washing area, as per police sources. The device, which contained nuts and bolts as shrapnel, reportedly had its impact reduced due to the nearby presence of a wall and tree, the newspaper stated.
On Sunday, Karnataka’s Home Minister G Parameshwara mentioned that the police are exploring various angles, including business rivalry, upcoming elections, and intimidation of investors drawn to Bengaluru due to the stable state government, in their efforts to solve the blast case at a city eatery.
He said police have procured about 40 to 50 CCTV footage.
G Parameshwara stated, “There is evidence suggesting he arrived by bus… Approximately 26 buses passed through the area during that time frame. We meticulously examined all 26 buses and identified the one he boarded. He was observed wearing a cap, mask, and glasses. However, we are still lacking clarity in that regard.”
