Center invites dialogue amid Farmers’ protest; Haryana police deploy tear gas shells
On Wednesday, the farmers, who are advocating for MSP support from the government for all crops, resumed their Delhi Chalo march to emphasize their demands.
In New Delhi, the Central government has urged the protesting farmers to participate in the fifth round of discussions. Union Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda stated on Wednesday that the government is prepared to address all unresolved matters, such as MSP, stubble burning, withdrawal of FIRs, etc. Meanwhile, farmer leader Rakesh Tikait’s BKU has initiated another campaign in western Uttar Pradesh, with farmers rallying on their tractors at various district headquarters.
“During the upcoming fifth round of discussions, we are prepared to engage in dialogue with farmers regarding issues such as MSP, stubble burning, FIRs, and crop diversification,” stated Munda today. “I urge them to uphold peace, and let us seek resolution through constructive dialogue.”
He mentioned that there hasn’t been any response from the farmers’ side regarding the Centre’s offer.
“We have yet to receive any information from the farmers’ side. We urge for dialogue to proceed and for both parties to present their perspectives. The government is also keen to progress and reach a resolution,” he remarked.
On Wednesday, the farmers, advocating for MSP support from the government for all crops, recommenced their Delhi Chalo march. Equipped with gas masks, earthmovers, and bulldozers, they pushed forward despite the tear gas shells discharged by the Haryana police.
Meanwhile, the Haryana police have warned the owners of heavy machinery to avoid the protests or risk facing legal consequences.
Meanwhile, in reaction to the Haryana government’s worries regarding the protesting farmers employing JCBs, Poclaines, Tippers, Hydras, and other heavy machinery at the Shambhu border, the Director General of Police (DGP) of Punjab has issued directives instructing all pertinent Punjab officials to cease the transportation of such machinery to the Punjab-Haryana borders.
A large gathering of farmers arrived at the collectorate in Muzaffarnagar on their tractors and staged a sit-in protest.
Naresh Tikait, the President of BKU, along with Rakesh Tikait, are expected to join the tractor march.
BKU workers and farmers organized a tractor march near the tehsil in Shamli. Initially, they attempted to bring the tractors inside the tehsil, but were halted by the police. However, subsequently, the farmers managed to enter the tehsil premises with their tractors.
