The body of Alexei Navalny was discovered in Russia, showing indications of bruises on the head and chest
According to a report, bruises were observed on Alexei Navalny’s head and chest when his body was discovered in a hospital morgue in the Arctic.
A Russian newspaper, citing an anonymous paramedic, reported that the body of Alexei Navalny, a prominent Russian opposition leader and vocal critic of President Vladimir Putin, was discovered in a hospital morgue in the Arctic two days after his death. The report mentioned the presence of “signs of bruises” on his body.
According to the paramedic, standard protocol involves transporting bodies directly to the Foreign Medicine Bureau, yet Alexei Navalny’s body was inexplicably taken to a clinical hospital instead. The source also noted that the bruises on his body resembled those typically seen on individuals restrained during a seizure.
An anonymous source informed the Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta Europe that upon Navalny’s body’s arrival at the mortuary, bruising was observed on his head and chest.
Novaya Gazeta quoted the paramedic as saying, “Typically, the bodies of individuals who pass away in prison are directly transported to the Bureau of Forensic Medicine on Glazkova Street, but in this instance, it was taken to the clinical hospital for reasons unknown.”
The source elaborated, stating, “Upon arrival at the morgue, they escorted him inside and stationed two policemen at the door, effectively signaling ‘suspicious activity.’ Naturally, there was widespread curiosity regarding the circumstances, the veil of secrecy, and whether there were efforts to conceal significant details.”
The paramedic also indicated that based on his professional assessment, the injuries observed on Navalny’s body suggested attempts to restrain him during convulsions. “Additionally, there was mention of a bruise on his chest, which typically results from indirect cardiac massage,” he stated.
Relatives denied access to Navalny’s body
For the third consecutive day following his passing, Alexei Navalny’s relatives and immediate family were prohibited from accessing his body, as reported by his team on Monday. They stated that his mother was “denied entry” into the morgue where his body may be located.
On X, Kira Yarmys, spokeswoman for the Putin critic, posted, “Alexei’s mother and his legal representatives reached the morgue early this morning. However, they were denied entry. One of the attorneys was forcibly removed. Despite inquiries to the staff regarding the presence of Alexei’s body, no response was provided.”
Alexei Navalny stood as the primary political adversary to Russian President Vladimir Putin. He was incarcerated in one of Russia’s most severe prisons located in the Russian Far North, serving a sentence spanning three decades.
Navalny lost consciousness and passed away within the prison on Friday, only three years into his 30-year imprisonment.
