Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP administration successfully passes a vote of confidence in the Delhi assembly, receiving backing from 54 MLAs.
Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, affirmed that there were no defections among AAP MLAs.
On Thursday, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal, successfully passed a motion of confidence in the Delhi Assembly. A total of 54 out of 62 AAP MLAs participated in the voting process.
Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, stated that there have been no defections among AAP MLAs. He mentioned that two MLAs are currently in jail, while others are either unwell or out of the station.
The Chief Minister of Delhi stated that while his government holds a majority in the House, it found it necessary to introduce the motion of confidence due to attempts by the BJP to lure party MLAs and destabilize his administration.
Kejriwal claimed that multiple MLAs have reported being approached and offered bribes to switch their allegiance by individuals associated with the BJP, as per PTI reports.
He asserted that the BJP believes it can dismantle AAP by arresting him. “You might detain me, but how will you eradicate Kejriwal’s ideologies?” he questioned.
During his speech in the House, the Chief Minister of Delhi highlighted that AAP poses the greatest challenge to the BJP, which is why it is facing attacks from various quarters.
Kejriwal stated, as reported by the news agency, “The manner in which the BJP has targeted AAP and detained our ministers; people nationwide are cognizant of this. They believe the public is naive, but that is not the case.
He accused the BJP of impeding the progress of his government by seizing control of the Services department and the bureaucracy.
According to PTI, he remarked, “Despite claiming devotion to Lord Ram, they have halted the distribution of medicines to the underprivileged in our hospitals. Would Lord Ram have ever condoned such an action?”
The vote of confidence in the Delhi Assembly coincides with Kejriwal’s virtual appearance before the Rouse Avenue Court in response to a complaint filed by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) regarding his purported failure to comply with its summons.
While attending the virtual session, Kejriwal informed the court of his desire to participate in the proceedings in person. However, he cited his commitments to the confidence motion and budget sessions as reasons for being unable to do so.
“Today, I had intended to attend the court proceedings, but then the confidence motion arose. Additionally, the ongoing budget session of the assembly extends until March 1. Therefore, I request a date for the court proceedings after that,” Kejriwal stated.
