Before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech at the World Government Summit, Burj Khalifa in Dubai was illuminated with the phrase ‘Guest of Honor – Republic of India.’
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai’s Crown Prince, warmly welcomed PM Modi, highlighting the robust relations between their nations as a blueprint for global collaboration.
Upon the invitation extended by UAE Vice President Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, PM Modi will attend the World Government Summit 2024 in Dubai as a Guest of Honour. He is scheduled to deliver a special keynote address during the summit.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, in a post on X, expressed that the World Government Summit has developed into a premier platform globally for exchanging governance best practices, success stories, and initiatives.
Speaking on X, Dubai’s Crown Prince conveyed a warm welcome to the Republic of India, the distinguished guest of honor at this year’s World Governments Summit, along with His Excellency Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India. He emphasized that the robust relations between their nations set a precedent for international collaboration.
“The @WorldGovSummit has emerged as a premier global platform for exchanging governance best practices, success stories, and initiatives, and envisioning the future of government. We are delighted to welcome India as a distinguished guest at this international event, where it will present its innovations, initiatives, and projects across various sectors, serving as a model for advancing government service delivery and accelerating development.”
During his two-day official visit to the UAE, PM Modi will meet with UAE Vice President Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Additionally, he will inaugurate the BAPS Mandir in Abu Dhabi.
On Tuesday, PM Narendra Modi and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan convened for a bilateral meeting, during which they witnessed the exchange of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs).
“Brother, I want to extend my sincere thanks to you for the warm reception. It’s quite rare that we’ve met five times in the past seven months, and I’ve had the chance to visit here seven times as well…the progress we’ve made in various sectors reflects the collaborative partnership between India and UAE,” stated PM Modi during his meeting with the UAE President.
The meeting saw the presence of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged with the inaugural cohort of students from the IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi Campus, commending the initiative for fostering cross-border collaboration among students. Additionally, he delivered remarks to the Indian diaspora during the ‘Ahlan Modi’ event held at Zayed Sports Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Upon landing at the airport, PM Modi received a warm welcome from UAE President Al Nahyan, where the two leaders exchanged handshakes and embraces. This marks PM Modi’s seventh visit to the UAE since 2015 and his third in the past eight months.
According to a press statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the relationship between India and UAE is characterized by warm, close, and diverse ties, supported by robust political, cultural, and economic connections.
“Subsequent to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s significant visit to the UAE in August 2015, bilateral relations between the two nations have advanced to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. In February 2022, both countries entered into a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), followed by the establishment of a Local Currency Settlement (LCS) System in July 2023, aimed at fostering the utilization of the Indian Rupee and AED for cross-border transactions,” the statement elaborated.
As per a press release from the MEA, India and the UAE rank as key trading partners, with bilateral trade reaching approximately USD 85 billion in the fiscal year 2022-23. Additionally, the UAE stands among the top four contributors to India’s foreign direct investments during the same period.
The MEA highlighted in its press release that the UAE hosts a thriving Indian community of around 3.5 million individuals, constituting the largest expatriate group. The valued and constructive role played by this community in the development of their host nation serves as a cornerstone of the outstanding bilateral relationship between India and the UAE.
