Mumbai Police discloses Mauris Noronha’s plot to assassinate Abhishek Ghosalkar
Mumbai Police stated that Mauris Noronha harbored suspicions that Abhishek Ghosalkar had falsely accused him of involvement in a rape case, resulting in Noronha’s incarceration for nearly five months.
The Mumbai Police disclosed new information related to the homicide of Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Abhishek Ghosalkar during the arrest of Mauris Noronha’s bodyguard under the Arms Act on Friday. The Mumbai Crime Branch has filed two FIRs regarding Abhishek Ghosalkar’s murder.
Abhishek Ghosalkar, aged 41 and the son of former Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Vinod Ghosalkar, was fatally shot in Borivali, a suburb of Mumbai, on Thursday evening while broadcasting on Facebook Live. The alleged perpetrator, his longtime political rival Mauris Noronha, aged 47, subsequently died by suicide. The crime branch has established two investigative teams to delve into the incident.
Abhishek Ghosalkar, a notable personality and former corporator, suffered fatal gunshot wounds to his abdomen and shoulder during the incident, which was captured on video and swiftly circulated online. Subsequently, Mauris Noronha took his own life after perpetrating the attack.

- The bodyguard, purportedly linked to the firearm used in the killing of Mauris Ghosalkar, was named as Amarendra Mishra. He has been apprehended under section 29 (B) of the Arms Act, which addresses the offense of providing a weapon to an individual without verifying their legal authorization to possess it, according to the news agency PTI.
- According to the police, Mauris Noronha harbored suspicions that he had been falsely accused by Abhishek Ghosalkar in a rape case, resulting in Noronha’s incarceration for nearly five months.
- The police have taken statements from Mauris Noronha’s family members, including his wife, and discovered that he held a resentment towards Abhishek Ghosalkar, who was a supporter of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Sena (UBT).
- As per the statement provided by the wife of the accused assailant to the police, her husband, who harbored political ambitions, believed that Abhisek Ghosalkar had falsely accused him in the rape case.

- According to Amarendra Mishra’s wife, when hiring him, Noronha insisted that Mishra leave his pistol at the office after completing his duty hours.
- A police official stated that there was a confrontation between Abhishek Ghosalkar, a former corporator, and Mauris Noronha, who harbored his own political ambitions.
- The official mentioned that upon his release from jail, Mauris Noronha often expressed his determination not to let Abhishek Ghosalkar off lightly. The official added that Noronha initially opted to gain Ghosalkar’s trust by extending an olive branch to him.

At approximately 7:30 PM on Thursday, Abhishek Ghosalkar was situated in his office within the IC Colony area of suburban Borivali, merely less than 100 meters away from Mauris Noronha’s office located on the ground floor of the ‘Prabhu Udyog Bhavan’ building, when he received a call from Noronha.
- According to the official, Mauris Noronha invited Abhishek Ghosalkar to his office, mentioning that he had arranged a saree distribution event for women in the vicinity. Noronha subsequently proposed to Ghosalkar that they conduct a Facebook Live session to publicly declare their intention to reconcile and collaborate.
- While broadcasting on Facebook Live, Mauris Noronha fired bullets at Ghosalkar using his bodyguard’s pistol.
- The police official further stated that Noronha quickly ascended to the mezzanine floor of his office and inflicted a gunshot wound to his own head.
- The crime branch stated that after firing five bullets at Abhishek Ghosalkar, the accused, Mauris, stood by the door and gazed at him for approximately 3-4 seconds. Upon fulfilling his target, he attempted to shoot himself there, but the pistol failed to discharge. Subsequently, he proceeded to the upper floor, where he loaded a bullet into the pistol and shot himself within a span of 25 seconds.
- It was reported that a total of six rounds were discharged, with five aimed at Abhishek Ghosalkar and one self-inflicted by Mauris.
