The assault, broadcasted live on Facebook, occurred in the aftermath of Maharashtra recently witnessing CCTV footage of a BJP MLA discharging a firearm inside a police station in the neighboring Thane district, sparking concerns regarding the state of law and order.
The investigation into the killing of a leader affiliated with Uddhav Thackeray’s faction has been transferred to the Mumbai Crime Branch.
The occurrence occurred shortly after a BJP MLA was captured on camera shooting at a leader associated with the Eknath Shinde faction inside a police station in Ulhasnagar. Chief Minister Shinde stated that an inquiry into the recent shooting incident was being initiated.

Sanjay Raut, a Member of Parliament from Shiv Sena (UBT), claimed in a post on X that Shinde had recently met with Noronha at the official residence of the chief minister, known as ‘Varsha’, four days prior, and had extended an invitation for Noronha to join the Shiv Sena under Shinde’s leadership. Sanjay Raut further urged for the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister, Devendra Fadnavis.
Aaditya Thackeray, a former minister, stated that he had encountered Abhishek Ghosalkar earlier in the evening and asserted that there was now a lack of law enforcement in Maharashtra.
According to DCP Raj Tilak Roushan of the crime branch, speaking to news agency ANI, initial evidence suggests a potential rivalry between the two individuals, and the murder may have occurred as a consequence of this rivalry.
“We were alerted about gunfire and promptly arrived at the scene. Both the wounded individuals, the victim and the assailant, were swiftly transported to a hospital, but unfortunately, both succumbed to their injuries. A thorough inquiry into the incident is currently in progress. Forensic samples are being gathered, and the matter is being examined comprehensively. An FIR is being filed, and the investigation has been transferred to the Crime Branch,” stated DCP Datta Nalawade in an earlier statement to reporters.
