Nikki Haley says India views US as feeble, distrusts American leadership
During an interview with Fox Business News, Nikki Haley noted that New Delhi has adeptly navigated the current global landscape by maintaining a close relationship with Russia.
In Washington, potential Republican presidential contender Nikki Haley stated on Wednesday that while India desires to be a partner with the US, they currently lack confidence in American leadership.
The Indian-American presidential hopeful further remarked that amidst the current global circumstances, New Delhi has demonstrated astuteness by maintaining close ties with Russia.
During an interview with Fox Business News, 51-year-old Haley stated that India currently perceives the United States as feeble.
“I have interacted with India as well. I have to say, I have interacted with India too. I have conversed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. India seeks to be our ally. They do not aspire to ally with Russia,” she remarked.
“In essence, the issue lies in India’s lack of trust in our ability to succeed and lead. Currently, they perceive us as being weak. India has consistently demonstrated strategic acumen, maintaining close ties with Russia, from whom they procure a significant portion of their military equipment,” she commented in reply to a query.
“When we regain our leadership and address our vulnerabilities instead of ignoring them, our allies such as India, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, Japan, and South Korea will follow suit. Japan, for instance, allocated a billion-dollar stimulus to reduce its reliance on China,” Haley stated during her interview with Fox Business News.
She emphasized that India also implemented a billion-dollar stimulus to decrease its dependency on China, underscoring the need for the US to strengthen its alliances.
According to Haley, China’s economic situation is deteriorating, and they are preparing for a potential conflict with the US. “China’s financial condition is worsening, evident in their increasingly authoritarian government. They have been readying for a confrontation with us for quite some time. That’s their miscalculation,” she added.
