A minimum of ten individuals lost their lives in an assault on a police station in Pakistan
In recent days, the South Asian country has witnessed a rise in violent incidents as it nears its national elections scheduled for later this week.
According to a senior commander, a group of militants attacked a police station in northern Pakistan during the early hours of Monday, resulting in the fatalities of at least 10 officers.
According to Reuters, the attack left at least six police officers wounded.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police chief Akhtar Hayat Gandapur informed AFP that an assault occurred at Chaudhwan police station in Dera Ismail Khan district.
The attack occurred at 3 a.m. local time (2200 GMT) on Monday, with militants initially targeting constables with sniper fire before infiltrating the police station, according to law enforcement officials in Pakistan’s Draban region, as reported by Reuters.
Gandapur stated, “Over 30 terrorists launched an assault from three directions. The gunfire exchange lasted for more than two and a half hours.”
Deputy superintendent of police in Draban, Malik Anees ul Hassan, commented, “Once inside the police station building, the terrorists resorted to using hand grenades, resulting in additional casualties among the police.”
As it approaches its national elections scheduled for later this week, the South Asian nation has experienced a notable increase in violent incidents in recent days.
