What message did Hemant Soren convey to Kapil Sibal before his arrest by the ED?
Hemant Soren was arrested by the ED following more than seven hours of interrogation regarding money-laundering allegations related to an alleged land fraud case.
One day prior to the Enforcement Directorate’s arrest of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren in connection with an alleged land-fraud case, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader asserted his lack of fear towards investigative agencies’ actions. During an interview with Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on his “Dil Se” YouTube show, Hemant Soren criticized the Bharatiya Janata-led Centre for purportedly targeting him through these agencies for political purposes.
Recorded in New Delhi on Tuesday, the interview was subsequently published on Thursday. During the discussion, Hemant Soren remarked that attempts to destabilize the JMM government in Jharkhand had persisted since its inception.
Following more than seven hours of interrogation regarding money-laundering allegations in an alleged land fraud case, the ED detained Hemant Soren.

Hemant Soren informed Sibal that upon assuming office, his government immediately encountered challenges involving key members of the opposition, which they effectively addressed.
In a sarcastic remark directed at the investigative agency, Hemant Soren mentioned that the ED has developed an interest in him and has been issuing summonses to him since 2022.
“In the interview, the JMM leader stated, ‘Despite the absence of an FIR or any specific individual named, the agency persists in attempting to assert that I have violated a law.'”
The former Chief Minister of Jharkhand alleged that the ED’s actions were intended to mentally harass leaders opposed to the BJP and their families. “We (JMM) engage in politics based on our own capabilities, we have established ourselves independently, and we will safeguard what we have constructed,” Hemant Soren remarked.
Regarding the activities of investigative agencies, the JMM leader remarked that he was becoming accustomed to such occurrences. “They are aware that my presence in the field poses challenges for them. Initially, they resort to threats, followed by offers of incentives, and eventually resort to such tactics… When they couldn’t succeed politically, they resort to alternative means,” the former CM stated.
“They can continue to target me, but I am undeterred. I am not afraid of this. We entered the realm of power politics because it is the only way we can serve the people,” Hemant Soren asserted.
Are his officials being singled out for scrutiny?
When questioned about the future of the opposition bloc INDIA, Hemant Soren remarked that nothing is beyond reach in the realm of politics.
Responding to Sibal’s inquiry about whether his officials were also under scrutiny, the JMM leader confirmed.
“They understand that officials are the ones carrying out tasks, hence they are intimidating them. In my administration, there are no directives to act unlawfully, and repercussions are faced for failing to uphold integrity,” he clarified.
Immediately before his arrest, Hemant Soren submitted his resignation as Chief Minister to Jharkhand Governor CP Radhakrishnan at the Raj Bhavan in Ranchi, after which he was escorted to the ED office.
